Burning Tips

Natural soy candles have their own unique qualities that in no way effect the way they burn and every candle is different. You will notice that the wax may look creamy through the glass, but rough on the top; that is a natural property of soy and is created by the cooling time. These differences are a natural characteristic of soy and will not affect the way that your candle burns.

Follow these tips:

  • The first time you burn your candle, burn it 1 hour for each inch in diameter of the candle (burn a 2.5" diameter candle for 2.5 hours). This is called a memory burn. It could take a little longer than one inch per hour.
  • Burn container candles until a pool of melted wax completely forms across the top. This will ensure an even, clean burn all the way down the container and prevent "tunneling".
  • When trimming the wick, leave it about 1/4 inch long. Burn the candle in an area that is free from drafts.
  • Upon cooling, your soy candle may appear "bumpy" on the top. This is completely normal and a natural characteristic of all soy wax
  • Allow the candle to cool and reharden before lighting.
  • When extinguishing your candle, don't blow it out. Put a candle snuffer over the flame for about 15 -20 seconds. This will extinguish your candle without the smoke.
  • If wick moves off center use a butter knife to gently push it back to center.
  • If wick becomes too short to light, carve away enough wax to expose the fresh wick. This is easy to do with soy wax because it is softer than paraffin.
  • If soot does build up inside the container simply wipe it away with a baby wipe, handi-wipe or damp paper towel. Allow the container to dry thoroughly before relighting. All wicks produce some soot, but if you follow these burning directions you will have much less soot build-up. It is very important to keep the wick trimmed!
  • Discontinue burning container candles when there's 1/4" of wax left in the bottom.
  • Soy wax can be cleaned up easily with hot, soapy water but remember it is still a wax and should not be poured down the drain. .
  • Candles will fade if left in direct sunlight or spotlights for extended periods of time so be aware of the location when placing or storing your candle.
  • These are hand poured candles, unlike mass produced candles, and there may be minor differences in color from batch to batch.
Soy wax candles have a few unique characteristics to them that in no way effect the wonderful way they burn.
  • Your candle may have a creamy color or off white color to it.
  • Your candle may have a crusty apppearance on the top of the candle. This creates a rustic look to it, but in no way effects the way your candle      will burn. It is completely normal and again is one of the natural characteristics of the soy wax that make it so unique.
  •  You may notice some wet looking spots on your candle where the wax has adhered to the surface of the glass. They are caused by temperature variations and are simply due to the expansion and contraction of the wax. You will notice that they change as the candle is burned or when the room conditions change. It in no way affects the quality of the candle.
  •  We know that once you see how wonderful soy candles are you'll never want to go back to paraffin again.
